Snowboard Bindings
Like snowboard boots, your snowboard bindings are a crucial part of your board, boots, bindings set up. Ask yourself firstly what it is you want to do with them.
Are you looking for speed? Do you want to do tricks? Will you be riding off jumps?
Park bindings are a good choice if you're after a strong yet lightweight binding. Freestyle bindings are
suitable for a most things including jumps and riding in deep powdery snow.
Snowboard bindings will need to match the insert pattern on your snowboard. The
binding should not overhang the side of the board. Therefore, check the width of the board against the length
of the bindings before you buy.
You should feel a snug fit when inserting your boot into the binding. This should be felt without ratcheting down
as the heel cup should prevent any sideways (lateral) movement. After you've strapped in your boots and
tightened up pay attention to any pinching or pain that might be felt at pressure points. Ensure there is no
discernable heel-lift and toe overhang. If the snowboard bindings don’t fit as well as you’d like them to,
you can always adjust the base of the straps (not at the ratchets, but where the straps meet the binding frames.)
For those boarders with larger feet, adjustments will most likely be required to ensure the bindings are tilted to
fit properly. This may necessitate using a wider board. Toe drag can be dangerous so it is important
that you have a sound fit.
Whatever your choice of snowboard bindings make sure they offer adequate support in the heels, toes and
ankles. Newer style bindings usually come with a toe strap that pushes the foot back into the binding.
For the more adventurous snowboarder wanting to do big tricks try a gas pedal. This is a raised patch on the
toe plate that allows you to go onto your toe edge with less effort.
Although it doesn't impact upon performance, you may want to give some consideration to your color choice and
match. Look at matching the color of your board with that of your snowboard bindings and boots. Do they
look right or are they out of place with one another? After all - you want to look good on the slopes right?
